Something Completely Different – Girl Scout Cookies

That’s right … Girl Scout Cookies! Who doesn’t love them? In the midst of creating fabulous pieces for Fleurenasci, even we need a snack break. What could be better than a Tagalong and a big glass of milk? Well how about three new flavors of cookies? Yes, on Monday the Girl Scouts of America announced the addition of Toffee-Tastic, Trios and Rah Rah Raisins. These new flavors will be available when the Girl Scouts begin selling the cookies this month. Another first for the organization will be the ability of cookie lovers all over the US to order their favorite cookies online.

According to the CNN article, approximately 1.5 million Girl Scouts sell 200 million boxes of cookies each year during the selling season, which begins in January, according to Anna Maria Chavez, the CEO of Girl Scouts of the USA. This year marks the organization’s 98th year of cookie sales.

So remember to support your local Girl Scout troop and order those cookies!

Gardening to Relieve Stress

We all enjoy looking out our windows and seeing beautiful flowers, but did you know that gardening those gorgeous blooms can actually help to relieve stress in your life. The sunlight alone is good for the soul, not to mention getting in touch with nature. In a recent about.com post the article described the many benefits of gardening for your body, spirit and mind.

The article explained that sunlight “provides an influx of vitamin D, and the fresh air that that goes with it is good for your health.” Gardening is simply a great excuse to get out and enjoy these fantastic health opportunities. Gardening is also good for the soul because it allows us to get out and enjoy nature. We all spend so much time at work, looking at a computer, and posting on social media, that we forget how wonderful it is to be outside. Gardening give this opportunity back to us.

Boston Strong

It’s hard to believe it’s been one year since the bombing at the Boston Marathon. Today, as runners cross the finish line and emergency responders stand on alert, we at Fleurenasci remember those who died and were injured in the tragedy. It is said there will be more police officers on duty than in the history of the race. Many victims from 2013 are on-hand today not only to run the race, but to also offer support and cheers on this year’s participants. For all of those we say congratulations and thank you. Together we will all stay Boston Strong.
For more information on today’s race visit the Rueters website.

Spring in the Air?

Despite snow, ice, and freezing rain, they say Spring is in the air … well at least in the pollen count. According to an article at 11Alive.com, the warm weather snap is causing a high pollen count for February. The article stated pollen counts rarely rise above 100 in February, but last Friday we hit a count of 255! Experts blame this on the trees blooming after the temperatures soared when the ice melted.
Dr. Stanley Fineman of the Atlanta Allergy and Asthma Clinic said the ice and snow actually provided perfect conditions for the trees. “They are well hydrated and they’ve got their water on board, and when trees are well hydrated, they thrive, so they are probably going to release more pollen,” he said.
So if spring allergies get you down, grab a box of Kleenex as this could be a long next few weeks for you!

Bring on Spring

What a crazy winter it has been across the United States. One week it’s snowing in Georgia, and the next week it’s 71 degrees. Madness! At Fleurenasci we say, “bring on spring!” Why? Well definitely for warmer temperatures, but also for those beautiful spring flowers.
On a recent search for spring flowers I came across a site which listed 10 unusual flowers for spring. There were so many! A few of my favorites included the Pasque flower, the Oriental Poppy and Trilliums. These flowers are full of vibrant colors and exude the feeling of spring and renewal. Of course my mind sees beautifully colored beads, but you all might want to take a look for new flowers for your garden. They are all quite beautiful.
And remember Fleurenasci when it’s time to cut back those daffodils and tulips. Keep spring alive all year through with a beautiful spring flower keepsake.
