March Partnership Spotlight

This month I would like to introduce you to Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville, GA. After meeting the home’s manager, Brendan Burkhead, at an Expo, I was so excited about his enthusiasm of Fleurenasci. He loved the concept so much, that he actually had an order placed before our partnership had become official! Wow, no wonder they have been in business as long as they have!

No stranger to the funeral home business, Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville was originally established in 1950, as Akins Funeral Home, owned by Pat Akins. In 1967, Raymond Nix bought in to the business, and it became known as Akins-Nix Funeral Home. The original funeral home was located on Highway 129 south and re-located to Kimsey Street in Blairsville. Due to the retiring of Mr. Akins and the failing health of Mr. Nix, they sold the funeral home and Union Memory Gardens Cemetery to Steve and Max Cochran in 1981. After purchasing the funeral home, a larger office was added, along with another layout room, a selection room, and other minor remodeling was done.

In 1993, a new building was built, the current funeral home, located on Highway 129 and corner of Hunt-Martin Street. Steve and Max felt this building could better accommodate the growing community, and they could serve family’s needs better in the new location.

The funeral home now has locations in Blue Ridge, Hiawassee, McCaysville, and Murphy, NC. The Cochran family takes great pride in the fact they have helped families from all over the area and from all walks of life. They are known for their industry leadership, their high integrity and their dedication to excellence. These are the exact same qualities I see with Cochran when working with them on a professional level. I am thrilled to have them on board as a partner and look forward to a long lasting working relationship.

A Nice Surprise

I love reading news on the internet, especially when I find a mention about Fleurenasci. Well imagine my surprise when I found a mention about us in a blog from a Kentucky blogger! Yes! Apparently he and his wife had been visiting the beautiful and historic Marietta Square and happened upon my jewelry at the Art Walk. Here is the author’s quote:

“My wife really liked Fleurenasci. They use flowers to make beads. Their stuff looked great, and it was very unique.”

Thanks Jim! I love when new people learn about our concept. To read his entre blog click here.

If you’d like to share your thoughts on our unique keepsakes, please post on our Facebook page so we can share with others who are learning about Fleurenasci!.

Fleurenasci is Blooming and Growing

In less than three years we have seen Fleurenasci grow in leaps and bounds. We love the gift of flowers and now thanks to our unique jewelry and keepsakes more of you love the gift of flowers too! It is because of you, our wonderful customers, that we are pleased to announce the addition of two new team members.

Lisa Paradiso has joined Fleurenasci as a working partner. She will join forces with CEO and creator, Phyllis Kiernan, to create more exciting opportunities for the company. A registered nurse who works at Wellstar Cobb Hospital, Lisa simply fell in love with the concept. When she learned of the expansion of the company, she quickly let Phyllis know of her interest in becoming a partner. Lisa loves flowers and cannot wait to get started making timeless keepsakes and jewelry from beautiful flowers. She resides in Powder Springs with her husband and has three children.

Denise Labra has also joined the team as a sales associate. A seasoned-sales professional, she has worked with such companies as Estee Lauder, Seventeen Magazine and IBM. She loves jewelry and Phyllis’ unique and fresh approach to turning flowers into beautiful pieces of jewelry. Denise believes Fleurenasci’s concept is the perfect way to cherish precious memories. She has two children and lives in Kennesaw.

When creating Fleurenasci, Phyllis knew flowers were often given to celebrate a joyful occasion or to show sympathy or concern during a sad or trying time. She knew what these flowers meant to people, but what was the best way to preserve that emotion? Thanks to her creative thinking and hours of education, Fleurenasci is able to offer items that cannot be found anywhere else. Phyllis gets to know her clients, learns their story and then creates a keepsake that represents exactly the moment they want to hold near. It’s the Fleurenasci difference. From its inception, Phyllis has made supporting US suppliers and shopping local a priority. This has led to the addition of many in-stock items available through retail partnerships, an Etsy shop and the website.

Taking Time to Enjoy the Flowers

While researching new and different flowers I came across this excellent article about the Best Flowers for each month of spring. What a great find and an awesome reminder that we should take a moment to enjoy the beauty we can find each month in the flowers around us.

As we enter the month of May, pay close attention to such flowers as the Peony, Lilac and Garden Roses. In June Dahlias will also join the list. The article even suggested some beautiful pairings for a spectacular bouquet in your home. Why not try the following:

• Daffodils and Daisies, Iris in shades of yellow-white blue

• Lilac and Ranunculus in shades of lavender and blush

• Vibernum and Calla Lilly in shades of white, yellow and green

• Sweet Peas and Hyacinth and Lisianthus in shades of bright pinks

To the authors of this post I want to say thank you for this monthly guide, and I hope it inspires others to discover flowers, and to see, enjoy and celebrate the beauty around us.  Flowers are a wonderful gift to receive, but isn’t it refreshing to just enjoy them because they are there … right outside our window? Enjoy spring and enjoy the beauty around you!

Shadow or No Shadow?

happy-groundhog-day-facebook-cover-1

February has arrived and we all know what that means! Groundhog Day! Every year on February 2nd the groundhog emerges to answer the much-awaited question, shadow or no shadow? If he sees his shadow six more weeks of winter are upon us while no shadow predicts an early spring. As I scanned the headlines for groundhog sightings it became very clear that there would not be a simple answer. Pennsylvania’s Punxsutawney Phil emerged to see his shadow and predicted six more weeks of winter. However, my home state of Georgia’s Gen. Beauregard Lee emerged to no shadow predicting an early spring. As I scanned on I discovered that wikipedia.org has been compiling a Predictions of Various Groundhogs list since 2008.   I’ll let you decide if bundling up for six more weeks or preparing for spring is in your future. As for me… Georgia’s Gen. Beauregard Lee’s emerged to no shadow predicting an early spring!

Did someone say Poinsettias?

Poinsettias, the flower of the beautiful season so many of us just celebrated. But in a few short weeks those beautiful, vibrant flowers will begin to fade, fold and crumble away. Stop right there. Wouldn’t it be wonderful to hold onto these Christmas memories for a lifetime? Why not bring those amazing flowers to us and let us create you a one-of-a-kind keepsake. And why not hold onto this flower and the memories of Christmas 2014, according to Teleflora the poinsettia has a very special holiday meaning.

“Also known as the Christmas Star and Christmas Flower, it’s said that this winter flower’s association with Christmas comes from a Mexican legend. The story goes that a child, with no means for a grander gift, gathered humble weeds from the side of the road to place at the church alter on Christmas Eve. As the congregation witnessed a Christmas miracle, the weeds turned into brilliant red and green flowers.”

The Aztecs thought the flower stood for purity, but today the December birth flower, symbolize good cheer and success and are said to bring wishes of mirth and celebration.

Got your interest? Don’t let those flowers dry up and wilt away, bring them to us and together let’s create something unique!

Fleurenasci literally, is flowers renewed.

Flower and Butterfly 8 w Tag Line with R mark (1)Fleur ~ French Etymology: /flœʁ/ Latin flos, florem; (flower; the finest part of something).

Renasci ~ Latin Etymology: re-+nāscor. Verb, present infinitive renāscī; (revived, renewed, born again).

Essence ~ Latin Etymology: essentia (the core nature or most important qualities of a person or thing).

Fleurenasci literally, is flowers renewed. As I celebrate the approval and finalization of the company’s logo trademark, I am reminded that Fleurenasci represents so much more than simply flowers renewed.   The choice to include the tag line “Bringing Flower Essence to Life,” is a gentle reminder to look beyond the exterior…. to celebrate the essence of life’s triumphs and life’s trials … for they shape the essence of the individual.

While the adding of a flower was initially intended as a subtle way of connecting Fleurenasci to flowers, again it evolved into so much more. The daffodil was chosen for its essence of joy and new beginnings.   Which brings me to the butterfly.   While there are many meanings derived from the butterfly, I choose to embrace the spiritual meaning, which is… to convey the choice to transcend, the power to make a choice, to choose our way of being… our paths… our destiny.

Is it my hope that you think Fleurenasci when you see flowers or even think about flowers? Certainly. But more importantly, as we enter this holiday season with all the hustle and bustle it brings with it, it is my hope you are gently reminded to celebrate and embrace life… to celebrate and embrace the essence of those around you… to celebrate and embrace your essence and all that you are!

I know I’ll be taking a moment to celebrate the essence of a few wonderful people who without their insights and skills the Fleurenasci logo would not have been born. Thank you to Jennifer Wilkes of JDW Integrated Marketing for your guidance and suppport and thank you to Tracy Willis of Tracy R Willis Photography for your design work and insightful vision in creating the Fleurenasci logo! I am forever grateful!

Icecubes and Marietta Mutt Strutt

I like you have so enjoyed watching all of the ALS Ice Bucket challenge videos. They have filled my Facebook feed and have brought many smiles to my face. I love supporting a cause and think ALS is one of the most worthy charities to give to this year. However there is another charity I love being associated with and that’s the Marietta Mutt Strutt.

This year’s Marietta Mutt Strutt is taking place on Saturday, September 6 from 10 AM to 3 PM at the First United Methodist Church in Marietta. I am proud to say Fleurenasci will be taking part in this great event. This event is being held to support and raise awareness of Sweetwater Mission, a nonprofit that has been helping families with food, clothing, job training and more since 1968. Sweetwater provides, on average, two tons of food a day for those in need – every day, 365 days a year!  Also look for beautifully handcrafted items for sale at the Mutt Strutt, made by the participants in Sweetwater’s newest artisan program for the formerly chronically homeless. The group’s mission since 1968 has been to prevent hunger and homelessness. They help stabilize families by providing basic needs and transform lives through education and employment opportunities. Visit SweetwaterMission.org to find out how you can help.

At Mutt Strutt you can enjoy Bluegrass music with the Cherokee Cut Ups on the main stage, delectable treats from the Cobb EMC Food Truck Spot, Dachshund Races, the Kid Zone with lots of fun activities for all ages, and the Pet Parade and costume contest. Parking and admission are free.

There will be more than 60 vendors on hand, including Fleurenasci. There will definitely be something for everyone! And be sure to take your precious pup to the Bone Bar, where nearly 4000 pounds of dog treats are available for you to scoop – and they’re free!
